Jumbo Frame Pros

Jumbo frames extend the maximum frame length of Ethernet to 9K, which almost extends the previous maximum frame length by 6 times. The advantage of increasing the frame length is that it reduces the number of data packets in the network and reduces the extra overhead of network equipment processing packet headers. After testing, in the traditional Gigabit Ethernet, about 81,000 packets flow through the network per second, and in the network using jumbo frames, this number is reduced to 14,000. In a 10-Gigabit network, this contrast is even stronger.

The greatly reduced number of frames will surely bring performance improvements. Regardless of system throughput or CPU occupancy, jumbo frames have a great advantage compared to traditional Ethernet frames, increasing the data transmission efficiency by 50% to 100%.This significant performance improvement has allowed most manufacturers to incorporate 9000 bytes into the regular MTU size, making the jumbo frame size at least 9018/9022 bytes. Therefore, most Ethernet devices can support jumbo frames up to 9216 bytes.
